Sunday Mornings

Security and Check-In

The first stop for parents and kids is the Children’s Welcome Center, located beside the lobby at the main entrance of the KidsDiscovery area. There you can register and check in your children for their classes.  At registration, each family is assigned a unique number. You will receive a security card, with this number, for each child who will be attending KidsDiscovery that day.

The security card is used to:

  • pick up your children at the end of the Celebration
  • provide a means to visually page you should your child need you during the service

At registration, you are encouraged to create a nametag for each child with the child’s name, security number and an allergy reminder for the child’s teacher.
Once children have entered their classrooms, parents can participate in the Celebration services, secure in knowing that they can be reached immediately in the event of a special need. There is a monitor placed over the exit door in the front right hand corner of the auditorium, which will display your family’s ID number if your child needs you.

After the Celebration, children are picked up from their classrooms when a parent presents the family ID tag to a children’s leader.  Children will be released only to a parent with an appropriate security card.

Infant/Toddler (Birth – 2 years)

New Horizons Fellowship’s infant/toddler class is designed for children from birth through age 2. The infant/toddler class offers quality, nurturing child care provided by NHF members. Excellent adult to child ratios are maintained at all times.

Preschool (Age 3-5)

Preschoolers begin their Sunday with playtime while they wait for the rest of their friends to arrive.  Then the children and volunteers join in a time of praise and worship.

Praise time is followed by the teaching of the day and a highly interactive Bible story.  They then return to the play room to have time with their friends – young and young at heart — while waiting for parent pickup.  Each weekend is filled with fun and learning!

Elementary (Grades K-5)

Kids begin with activities to introduce them to the day’s lesson while they interact with other kids and the volunteers.  Then the children and volunteers join in a time of praise and worship.

After praise time, the kids experience their Bible story in the large group gathering, then they break into smaller age-graded groups for application activities. Leaders provide an exciting adventure as they guide the children through a Bible-based curriculum which teaches them how to apply God’s truth in today’s world.

The age graded groups are kindergarten/1st grade, 2nd/3rd grade and 4th/5th grade.  These groups allow the children to be taught at a level that is meaningful to their age group.

Curriculum

KidsDiscovery uses Orange: First Look curriculum for the infant/toddler class.

Preschool uses Orange: First Look, which equips children from ages 3 to 5 with 3 key concepts. First impressions are important! This curriculum is designed to give children a first impression of their loving heavenly Father, but remains simple and fun, repeating one basic truth about God all month long. The activities tickle all the senses, making understanding of the concepts a blast! Crazy fun activities along with large group Bible stories and worship time are all part of the plan to help a child believe 3 things by the time he or she is five years old:

  • God made me.
  • God loves me.
  • Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

July: Theme: Camp Splish Splash (Part 2)

Memory Verse: “God’s way is perfect.” 2 Samuel 22:31

Key Question: Whose way is perfect?
Basic Truth: God loves me.

Bottom Line: God’s way is perfect

WEEK 1 | EXODUS 1:21- 2:10 – Moses’ mom and sister hide him among the reeds along the bank of a river in an effort to save him from the evil Pharaoh.

WEEK 2 | EXODUS 13:17 – 14:31 God parts the Red Sea so Moses and the Israelites can walk across on dry land.

WEEK 3 | EXODUS 17:1-7 God makes water come from a rock so Moses and the Israelites will have something to drink.

WEEK 4 | 2 KINGS 5:1-14 The prophet tells Naaman to wash seven times in the Jordan River so he can be healed.

WEEK 5 | SunDay FunDay

K-5th grade uses Orange: 252 Basics, which equips kids from kindergarten through fifth grade with basic truths. In fact, when a kid transitions to middle school, NHF wants that child to have experienced and owned 3 truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52:

  • I need to make the wise choice.
  • I can trust God no matter what.
  • I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

On the whole, 252 Basics invites kids into the story of God, to show them the character of God, all while helping them internalize the 3 Basic Truths. 252 Basics also includes parent pieces to synchronize home with what’s going on at church.

July: Theme: Opportunity Knocks – Responsibility

Week 1– Bottom Line: Show you can be trusted by taking care of what God has made. The first job God gave to Adam and Eve was a task that we can continue today. (Genesis 1:26-31)

Week 2 – Bottom Line: Show you can be trusted to lead by learning how to follow. We all want to lead, but we need to learn from our leaders before we can be in charge. (1 Kings 19:16-21)

Week 3 –  Bottom Line: Show you can be trusted by what you do. You can’t just say you’ll do something; you actually have to do it. (Matthew 21:28-32)

Week 4 – Bottom Line: Show you can be trusted with more by taking care of what you have. If you want more responsibility, show that you can be responsible with what you already have. (Matthew 25:14-29a)
